Fox Lake

Outdoor activities are a way of life in Fox Lake, once known as a summer destination for wealthy Chicagoans. Now more than 9,000 residents call Fox Lake home. Affordable housing, a nearby Metra commuter train line, and excellent schools make living in the area popular year-round.

Summer recreation abounds in the Fox Lake area, including water sports such as boating, swimming and fishing. For land lovers, biking and hiking are also popular. When the snow falls, cross-country skiing, snowmobile rides, ice skating and sledding offer enough activities for even the most ardent sportsperson.

Chain O’ Lakes State Park
Chain O’ Lakes State Park offers 2,793 acres of park, plus an adjoining 3,230-acre conservation area. Nearly 6,500 acres of water and 488 miles of shoreline make this area a recreational paradise.

There are plenty of water sports to enjoy at Chain O’ Lakes State Park. Picnicking, boating and swimming all make for fun summer activities. Four trail systems also offer space for biking, hiking and horseback riding. For those desiring more of the great outdoors, campsites and cabins are also available.

During the winter, ice fishing, sledding and cross-country skiing take center stage.

Lake County Forest Preserve District
The award-winning Lake County Forest Preserve District also offers summer and winter activities. Snowmobile and horseback riding trails, as well as biking and hiking paths provide year-round recreation. Grant Woods has more than six miles of walking, jogging and biking trails.

Schools
Duck-Lake Crossing children will attend Big Hollow Elementary School District #38 and Grant Township High School #124. Vern's Landing children will attend Lotus School PreK-5th grade, District #114 Stanton Junior High Sschool and Grant Township High School #124. Both districts have excellent test scores and a variety of academic and extracurricular activities.

Lake County Attractions
Six Flags Great America provides more than 100 thrilling rides, as well as food, shopping and entertainment. Gurnee Mills offers more than 220 renowned outlet stores, as well as entertainment venues and theme restaurants. Those looking for an outdoor music venue should look no further than the Ravinia Festival, held each summer in Highland Park.

Fox Lake Area Chamber of Commerce of Commerce & Industry
A “Celebrate Fox Lake” parade, festival and craft show takes place during the Independence Day celebration, complete with fireworks. An annual golf outing, summer boat show, Octoberfest, and Breakfast with Santa provide something for everyone in the family.

Village of Fox Lake
Nestled in the middle of the Chain O’ Lakes area, Fox Lake has a long history as a resort and recreation community. A new Village Hall recently opened to help residents continue to receive exemplary service from the village.

Fox Lake District Library
More than 70,000 books, videos, compact discs and recorded books are available.

College of Lake County
The College of Lake County offers a number of classes designed to fit the needs and schedules of its students. Students can choose from classes that can be transferred to a four-year college, or adult education classes that will help study for a GED.
